Hit the sledding hill this morning for a scant 11 cents. Mired in self pity and doubt I scouted for something to make the early trip notable all the while swatting that thing that was flying around my face and ears. Sometimes it's right in front of your eyes and you miss it.

It being only 24 degrees F I knew it would hit the ground soon so I turned from prey to stalker and had the camera on hand to catch it's cold slip into oblivion. Knowing it was just a forebearer of the future hunt conditions, I taunted it as it chilled and stiffened.

So here's to my first for the year, this one's for you, Joe!

Oh man! I was thinking of going out for a bit later this week.

I guess I'll have to break out the Deep Drift Off!

I think that's a midge and not a mosquito, so there is no reason to start sniffing the deet...

Shhhh, don't tell Joe.

He freaks on skeeters!

The first signs of spring her are the Robins returning. I saw my first ones last Thursday. But woefully there won't be any baby Robins this year I don't think. It's been cold enough to freeze their (fill in the space)off! Monty

I never thought I'd be so happy to see one of those critters. . . (must be that Chile 3" earth-axis shift)
