I finally took some pictures of December finds. These were all out of one park by work.

I've been focused on one baseball field that just keeps producing for me. At the top are four Indian Heads with the oldest being 1898. A cool old barrel key. Next to the key is a key date wheatie..It is a 1914D in awful shape. I tried to get a good picture of the date but between my camera and the loop I was using I could not manage it. There is a Jesus medal that I think maybe silver but there are no markings. 1902 Barber Dime and a 1918 Merc. A 1939 New York World's Fair metal. Two religious statues of a saint (?) Three old nickels: a 1906 V, another V that I can't make out date and the last one I'm not sure but I think is a V.

Some close ups:

Here are a few other photos for your viewing pleasure.

My wife fully supports my hobby but takes every opportunity to give me a good ribbing so here are the cookies she baked for Christmas. I'm one very lucky guy.

Her birthday was Jan. 3rd so I took the opportunity to give her a gift we both could enjoy...no it is not a detector. The few times we get a babysitter and are able to go out for dinner and a few drink we usually seek out a place that has Megatouch. Then we spend the night playing PhotoHunt or TaiPlay. Yeah we are crazy...now we can play it at home.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and my rambling. Happy New Years!! Here is to a awesome 2009 hunting season :hello2:

Nice finds. At least you can read the date on the key date. :)

That, seriously is a Good park. Has it been hit hard in the past, deep finds, or are you being one of the first to really detect it? That 14-D would be proudly displayed in the barren, empty slot in my bright blue Whitman folder. Been staring at that space for 12 years now. Kudos!

SUPER FINDS. CONGRATS.

Nice hunts and finds. I still need a V nickle ::)

Thanks...In this park there are three baseball fields. The field I'm working now has produce 5 or 6 V nickels. The one I was working before this one was Buffaloes and War Nickels and the third one has only produced modern nickels. It is fun to gage what parts of the park were used when by the majority of the coins you find. Although there are always exceptions. I also found a 1837 hard times token and a 2 center in the Buffalo field. A 1817 Large cent turned up in the V nickel field. Barber and Merc dimes seem to be pretty evenly dispersed. Not many quarters - one Barber and three silver Washingtons.

The park is in the middle of a city so I'm sure it has been detected before but I don't think by too many people. Most of the older coins are around 4 to 6 inches deep. A few were a little deeper and some were a little shallower. I found a Barber Quarter that was almost on the surface.

I have never seen another detectorist in this city. It is a pretty rough town so I think it keeps most of the smarter people away...I must fall into a different group. If you ever watch the show on A&E called 'Jacked' that is where I work and detect at lunchtime. Two murders so far this year and I think it is still the stolen car capital of the US. The local golf course was on Maxim's most dangerous golf courses in the world list. They pulled two bodies out of the water hazard over a six month period. Lovely Newark, NJ.

It really is pretty sad since the city has allot to offer as far as history and culture. I find that if you stay aware of your surroundings and just stay street smart you usually don't have any problems. Although if I did not work there I definitely would not go there to detect. I do it now just because it is convenient.

There are so many great spots in nearby Camden NJ, the 4th most dangerous city in the nation. I decided to get an early start arriving at dawn on a Sunday morning one time, figuring the crackheads were just wrapping up their Saturday business. They were already at it by 7AM!! All I found was a silver ring with "God is Love" inscribed on it.

Camden had one of the earliest settlements in the country, dating back to the early 1600's. I know the exact location of the orignal settlement, but I have not gathered the courage to detect there yet!

Camden is pretty scary. I want to take my daughter to the aquarium but everytime I think about doing it I decide not to at the last minute. I hear it can be like a warzone in certain parts and since I don't know where they are I just avoid the whole place.

nice finds wish I had a park close by that would give up coins like that...Matt
