Yesterday's find: Coprolite?
I found this piece at a lumber/saw mill yesterday in northeastern Tennessee.
This piece was covered in rust-colored clay and the first thing I noticed is that it was VERY heavy for it's size.
So, not having any idea what I was looking at, I decided to cut this ugly rock.
What I found inside is what threw me for a loop. There appears to be organic material and even honeycomb formations, all black. There is also a reflective luster to the cut as you can see in the photo. I had to wash it several times to remove the iron deposits that seemed to pour out of it. Input? -Luke
