I found one of those marbles a few weeks back. To my understanding, they are 1800's salt glazed pieces. Still cool!

This is pasted from a website about the arrow shotgun shell- "It is still a nice find though with an interesting history. This line originally started out life as the UMC SMOKELESS line of shells around 1895. UMC changed the name to ARROW in 1901 or 1902 because customers were asking for "SMOKELESS" shells and were being given other brands that contained smokeless powder. In 1911 Remington and UMC merged creating REMINGTON-UMC and the ARROW line was kept after the merger, and was a popular shell in the teens. An interesting note, this shell was advertised as a "steel lined" shell, but in all of the different examples and varieties that I have, I have yet to find one that is attracted to a magnet The real value of a find like this is being able to put a date (or date range) on an area that you are hunting. This headstamp was put into use in 1911. The last mention that I can find for the REM-UMC ARROW is 1919. Your yard seems to have some old history to it.

a great day. Sometimes I feel lucky to find one or two items.

Bravowhiskey I thought just like you until today. Before I tell this story, allow me to be the one that acknowledges the fact that I have posted many many geofacts questioning their archeological significance. Of course I got dog piled and a few times had my feelings hurt. However, all of my pieces in question, well, I feel would have appealed to the eye of any surface hunting amateur. All of my "is this" pieces were tools, and never points. Any way, after work today I stopped to get gas and shoot the crap with the old fellows. I frequent that store, so, often I'll have my day's finds in my pockets, and let the guys look at them. This kid,( well I say kid, he's about 25) is always telling me my finds are "pretty good " or "I have much better, I would have left that one, its broken", things to that nature. Never a compliment. Today, I had not been hunting, so he had nothing to put down. Nonetheless, he started talking about all his nice finds and my crap finds. Finally I ask him "can I come look at your frames?" He says "yes, but you can't take pictures to post on line". When I walked into his house, and saw his frames, I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. This cat had about 10 frames of jagged gravels. Not one even questionable piece. He was all proud and talking junk, while I sat dumbfounded. When I finally was able to get in my truck I started thinking about this awkward situation. I didn't insult the guy like he does me, I sat quiet, with no compliments, no nothing. Driving I spoke out loud to my self, I'm glad I have sense enough to leave my gravel in the drive way. I just as you, at once felt lucky with one or two finds. Now, I feel lucky just to know a find from a field rock. Sorry for the long post, but I had to share this, and you gave me an open door with your post. I hope that gravel collecting trash talker reads this. He needs to get on here and study!!

Great Stuff, N.C. My goal when I head out is to find one thing of interest, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. But I always have a great time looking and enjoy spending time outside with my dog and the fresh air. I went out last weekend to a new spot, with 99% snow cover, I knew I had no chance, and ya, I came home empty. But I had a great time and thats all that matters...
