yesterdays hunt..1800-1808 half cent

Just got a chance to post..
Great day yesterday with the hillbillies. .
Seems like the south won!!! Lol.
Found a few artifacts. .and buttons. .
4th quarter 3rd down..And bang!!
When I pulled out of plug thought it said 1794..You could see it and read it...was wrong...Now its almost a blank disc..
But I can tell its the draped bust ..and cant get a date off it..hoping it was the 1802 cohen 1..
Wish full thinking...lol
Has anyone seen the hole punch before??
I dont believe its one though..Its made of lead...any help would be great. .

Very nice buddy! I'm yet to find a half cent. I absolutely love cufflinks and kfeel like they're a fairly tough thing to find. Those half cents don't show up often...except for you :-)

Well now I know it wasn't my imagination that there was a faint date on an LC I found then couldn't see any date later, dirt dried taken the date with it! Note to self take pics first.

I think it a writing tool.

There were writing instruments way back in the Medevil days that were very similar but I doubt that yours dates back that far. It might go back to the colonial days when paper was actually made from old cloth and a lead stylus would have been able to be used for writing if ink was not available to the person using it. I don't think any thing like this has been authenticated by the esteemed archaeologists in their ivory towers but that would be my hunch, for what it is worth. Great find, congrats.
