Yestereday's Finds
I finally got permission to hunt the farm that was a recreational area in the early 1900s. Quite a bit of time was spent in just trying to pinpoint the area. A lucky turn of events got me to the right area. A guy riding his 4 wheeler stopped and talked to me as I was wandering around. I told him what I was looking for. He told me his mother, who is 83 years old, had told him about the place. He gave me a ride on his 4 wheeler to the area.
Anyway, after getting to the spot, there was broken glass and bricks spread out in the field for 70 to 80 yards. I couldn't find any foundations, but piles of tin and trash in the woods gave the approximate locations of a couple of buildings. Once again, the greenbriars about ate me up. I only found one 1979 penny, some toys, and a few bottles. I found several old Coke and Pepsi bottles, but they were broken. The neatest find was the heart shaped piece of china.
The big brown bottle was embossed with "The J. R. Watkins Co." One of the small clear bottles was from Chesebrough Mfg. Co. Cd., the original manufacturer of Vaseline. The bone china is The Old Country Roses collection made by Royal Albert, Ltd. in England.
I am headed back out to this site today. I will take pics of the site today.
