We went back today to the church site where an old house once stood somewhere in the vicinity and where my husband found the barrel tap.We both found wheaties and as it was almost dark when I started finding several coins I didn't know what I had until we studied it by the light of the trunk lid light. Its an old Imperial Standard flat button, possibly Colonial age.I was amazed at how clear the back was but the front was pretty toasted and I think I scratched it with my digger. This is definitely the oldest artifact I've ever found.I'm stoked even though I know they are fairly common.I meant to take both pictures on the felt, dang.

Congrats, early 1800's button and a barrel tap, you may have a large cent or even early silver come out next .

Good Luck

CoilyGirl, it says "SUPERFINE STANDARD".

Nice button! That is surprising the back is in such good shape! Your next great find is just waiting for you to wave your coil over it! HH!
