Hi all. Thought I'd get out this morning since the weather was nice and cool. Went by one permission but no one answered, so I kept driving. I passed a neat looking old farm house and decided to turn around. An elderly lady answered the door and when I gave her my pitch, she said " Ok, but I'd like to see what you find". I assured her she would see everything and started the small yard. As you can see, the finds were very minimal. I didn't dig the iron signals but everything that may have been a flat button and up came home with me. I just knew this old house would produce at least some IH's or maybe even some older silver, but they just weren't there. 3 weeks ago, I stopped at a mid 1900's house thinking I might get some late silvers and left with a large cent. Sometimes this hobby makes no sense, lol. One good thing about today~I had NO no's, lol. I stopped at 5 locations and had 4 no answers and the one yes. Thanks for looking.

No silver Washington's for me either. 2 SLQ and 1 Barber this year
It's odd, isn't it? I have 6 silver Washingtons this year and 0 Barbers and 0 SLQ's ever!

I found a couple........just sayin

Lol jk!!

You walked away with silver so it's a good day.

You're absolutely right though. I've found my oldest three coins in the "newest" school I've hunted. It's crazy sometimes.
This hobby never ceases to surprise that's for sure.
I believe that's a significant part of what fuels the addiction.

Did I ever mention I have found a couple KG's? Lol
well I got one.......I think, I kinda abused it a bit though, darn 400 grit lol

Sweet silver quarter, gotta love it! Here is the secret question, what did the old lady say when she seen your finds?

She said " It doesn't seem worth all the time it took you to find that". I even offered her anything she wanted since I didn't find much. Chris and I have gotten so many no's and people just not answering the knock that I really appreciate when someone does answer and say yes. I offered her the quarter and said I was very surprised I didn't find much. She didn't know the exact age of the house but said it was " pre-1900 ". I was just happy for the opportunity as I know you are when you get a yes Brad.

Congrats on the silver Dave!
I like the 'Bloomsburg' tag too, I love finding old tags with info on them! :laughing7:

I find door knocking very intimidating, so I drew up a letter this year and I attach one of my 'detecting' business cards to it.
I then give this to the homeowner, I think this helps to 'break the ice' by explaining what our hobby is all about.
Dave

Thanks Dave! Nice card, very impressive! The Bloomsburg tag was a dog license from 1994. The lady said it might have been from a past pet she had but didn't want it. Being aluminum, it sure gave a nice tone lol. I have to admit that before this year I was a bit intimidated by door knocking as well. From the answers I frequently get though, we are in the minority. One lady told me she had 3 fellows this summer detect her small yard individually before I knocked. If we don't hurry we will be left with clad lol.

p.s. I like your signature

Great find OD! My one and only Wash quarter (1949) came from a colonial site that had no settlement after about 1850. Apparently it was lost by a hunter. I had just found an 1787 Mass cent there a week prior. I got that high 80 low 90 on my T2 and though I either had Spanish or some big day early American silver. Only time I've been disappointed when I dug a silver coin lol. I quickly got over it and was happy. Then dug an 1896 Barber quarter and early ih which I'm assuming was another hunter drop. You just never know :-)

Yeah, I see that when we look at a site and get a certain expectation as far as type and quality of finds from them, we just set ourselves up for disappointment lol. I guess we need to try and go in with no preconceived notions and be grateful for what we do get Abe.
George, Brad, Chris and I were talking about you last week lol. They are looking forward to your time spent in Princeton ( I think that is where you said you'd be spending some time? ) so they can meet you.

Nice silver. Congrats on the save! GL&HH.
