Metal Detecting
I searched a former homesite in the woods today. The most unusual find was this risqué stamped metal piece, which is marked STERLING along the top edge. If anyone has any idea what it is and how old, please let me know. (Just don’t tell me it’s a 20-year old naked woman😁.) Other finds include a couple old buttons, some square nails, and a coin-like object. Happy hunting and good luck out there.

EDIT: Many thanks to Pepperj for the quick ID: a circa 1900 art nouveau match safe.

Great looking match safe.
Art Nouveau/1900 vintage.
Thanks for the info. You definitely nailed the ID. I have never found one of these before. I find it so much more interesting knowing what it is. Thanks!

Agree, looks like a match safe ca 1900.

Very nice bunch of finds, congrats!

Is it Aphrodite? I'm sure I once saw some artwork depicting her like that.
Not sure. I tried a few searches using that name, but could not find this exact same match safe online. However, I did see that the depiction of a nude woman was very common on these cases.

Great find you did good :0
