Today Silvergurl and I went out to the woods for a 4 hour hunt.... Right as soon as we got out there I turned on my detector right over a hotrock patch that was probably a 100x100 foot square then moving away I stumbled upon an iron patch and I'm not talking about the kind that nulls your machine out, no I'm talking the kind that where almost every swing of you detector gives of 2 or 3 good sounds only when you dig down you see that you just caught the edge of 2 or 3 nails... Well I finally made my way back to the spot where I found that pocket spill last week, I picked up another Wheatie so I guess that was good but I was already to pack it in for the day just on account of the billions and billions of hot rocks and slag that was absolutely everywhere.

Well a few more hours passed and I managed to get a few more Wheaties and Mary came walking up to me and showed me the 1913 that she picked up, so I was happy that she found an oldie but I was still pi$$ed that we totally waisted another perfect day out in the god forsaken Des Plains River forest preserve!!!!! To anybody that can constantly pullout goodies great job but I will just pass on detecting there in the future... :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

I bet your next hunt will be back to Chicago park turf after dealing with those ground conditions!

YOU NOT HAVING ANY GOOD FINDS MEANS NO VIDEO FOR US TO WATCH , BUMMER!

Yeah, but it was sooo sunny and beautiful out today....

I'll trade my totlot totals for a day with four wheaties on some days, but then again I've had many of those days and the knees and digits are just plain hurting too much sometimes go through all that diggin too!

Yeah &(#^*%^%*% IT.......What HE Said .
Sorry to hear about your tough luck out there......I have had those days...Wearing out that Noise Cancel button, and still not making much headway....The ONLY thing that has helped me in those situations....Was
to Hunt in Auto Sens sometimes - 2 or 3.....Lowering the sens does help with the falsing & Chatter,,and Noise Cancel every 5-10 minutes till I got to better ground.....
%(&^$ I was Looking forward.....I ALWAYS Look forward to watching your videos....
When ever you go back out there..........Try lowering your manual sens down to 12....AND Then...work up from there till comfortable,,,,,and NOISE CANCEL OFTEN................Congrats on the wheats ..They add up & you never know when you are going to find a key date that will make your day.

We all have days like that bud. I've come home whipped with only a few memorials and clad dimes and think what a waste of time, but usually after a shower and a few beers I start looking for a new place to try again.

At least by the age of the coins, you know you were hunting in a silver producing area.
That's how I always justify a slow day. :laughing7:

Better luck next time TF!

I've found I can run manual sensitivity down pretty stinking low before I lose any real depth, so try what Dave suggests without fear. I was digging up a wheatie from 8" with manual sense on 15. Also try noise canceling with your coil on the ground if you can find a spot that is clean, or just try going through the different channels manually (tedious, but could be done).

Finding some wheaties and hunting with those you care about is worth the trip out in my opinion.

HH!

Not sure how I missed this one...

Kermit, man, I feel ya! I just keep telling myself that days like that are what make me appreciate the good days even more. The best part of the ordeal is that you've got one more place you can write off. You don't want to be wasting perfect autumn days out in a place like that, those days are just too far and few in between and too short. So it's good you got it knocked out while it's late summer. I had two hours to spare this morning and so I checked out a wooded spot not too far from me that I had researched in the past. I couldn't tell from the aerials, but it ended up being a vast, wooded floodplain littered with trash. I spent two hours getting bit by mosquitoes and waving off spiderwebs, for two clad quarters and a clad dime! Curses!

Oh well. On to more research, and next week!

Joe
