Primary Interest:
Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
Today I was getting ready to hunt the beach and a woman pulled up and asked if what I had was a metal detector. I told her yes it was and she asked me if I could scan something for her, I asked what it was that she wanted scanned. I’m thinking a piece of jewelry or something. She said let me park and I’ll tell you. She gets out of her car and asks if I could scan her vehicle for tracking devices. Says she thinks her ex put a tracking device on her car and thought I could find it with a metal detector. I tried to explain that metal detectors don’t work that way, she still insisted I scan her car. I thought about running my detector over her car just to appease her but decided against it. Anyway she finally accepted what I was telling her and drove off. By far the strangest request I’ve had , let’s hear your stories.
I did find 1.76 in clad, a gold plated pendant and a silver plated earring.

I had a guy stop me in his work vehicle and go on to tell me about a jar of old silver coins his grandfather had buried in his yard. He than offered to split the coins if I go help him locate them. I never took him up on the offer at the time. He said there was a short window and house was being sold. I just wasn’t able to do it in that time frame he gave me.

I would have Turned the detector all the way down & scanned inside & Out & then said "Your Fine"

it's a man thing :coffee2:

Not really requests, but strange questions.....

Q......"Can you find oil with that thing?" A...... I replied "all the time"
Q....."What would you do if you found something?" A..... "Dunno yet"
Q.........." It must get boring digging up junk, coins and old stuff ?" ................. A... "yeah I hate it !!"

Back in the 80s early 90s I had folks wanting to give me their spare change. Some were persistent actually, believing I needed the money.🤣
Battery money. :icon_thumright:

Killer ploy, crazy old man down on his luck trying to find money. 👍😁
Very clever.
How much did you make?

Do the math-that was 40 yrs ago.🤣
There was still some spring in the step.

Actually I turned the offers down.

I still remember the one Eastern European couple thought I was too proud to take the change.
So he started to pull out bills out of his wallet.
It took some convincing I was looking for old change, relic, jewelry.
We had a good laugh when they figured it all out.

Sheesh you guys are party poopers. Yup, I tink I know how long ago the 80s and 90s were 🤪
I was imagining someone "pretending to be old". Damn you must be fun at parties.

I was down in Bowerston Ohio and detecting place where an Old School once was. There was a cemetery across the street . He wanted me to go over there and detect an old womans grave lot that was supposed to be buried with some gold coins. I declined an d never heard any more about it

Other than irate people demanding that I stop metal detecting and leave and that's on open beaches. I have never had it happen to me anywhere else. It's like the nut jobs come out on the beach when I bring out the detector.

Not really the same thing, but I've had numerous people ask if I use a metal detector to find arrowheads. After getting so many blank stares explaining you can't find rocks with a metal detector, now I just say yes. I use a metal detector.

The BIG question is did you take it? I would have.

No, I convinced them I wasn't in need of their charity.
You could have taken their change, stared intently at the dates for a second or two, then handed it back and said “thanks but I already have that one.”
