You'd be amazed what you can find on a walk — a boy and his dad prove it

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Every day, Keith Severin and his 8-year-old son, Adrien, go on a treasure hunt.

They take a walk somewhere in their Antelope, Calif., neighborhood, or wherever they happen to be that day, and keep their eyes open for treasures.

As a kid, almost everything is a treasure to Adrien. He never met a stick he didn't like.

"When we first started, he would pick up everything," Severin said.

Great story, last time I took the kids out on a "treasure hunt" walk, we found a mangled sheriffs badge in a
pile of snow.( in an area the city designated to dump excess snow from plowing streets)

Called it in, deputy showed up and proceeded to run me and my two kids through the proverbial ringer, two
weeks later we were, as the deputy put it, "cleared". Turns out he deputy who it belonged to failed to report
it missing after a scuffle with his wife. (info courtesy of a friend with the police dept.)

Unfortunately my children rarely sought to go on further treasure hunts. ???
