Who's Carrying a Glock While Detecting Va. Beach? Mention on National News.

"Not that there is anything wrong with it" lol Watching Fox Business News last night and Dagen McDowell mention that she had seen a guy carrying a Glock while he was metal detecting at Va. Beach. He told her it was to protect his gold ring finds. No time frame but seemed to indicated it had been recent. She is pro gun but was still seemed to be shocked to see it on the beach. Sure he has his reasons but I have not felt the need to yet. Has anyone else felt the need to carry at the beach?

I carry everywhere I go, stores, gas stations, movies, beach, malls, church, Disney and so on, been doing so for years.

I refuse to be an unarmed victim...

Disney announced they are getting metal detectors. They are also watching like hawks. Been kicked out twice...

Ban for life from Disney, that would be like being banned from 7-11 for me, no big deal at all... Last time I went I was carrying with no problems...

I have CCW license, I can carry legally so if I left if caught they couldn't ban me as I have legal right to carry as long as I left when told to do so.

From Wikipedia:
Common sense is: a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge things, which is shared by ("common to") nearly all people and can reasonably be expected of nearly all people without any need for debate.[1]

Common sense tells us that the world we live in is like going into the woods where bears are. If you are there and you need a weapon to defend yourself from the bear that wants to have you for lunch, it would be better to have that weapon, and therefore be able to avoid being on the bears' menu. Same applies for people that want to do you harm. Everywhere we go, there is a potential threat of those that seek to take from you, whether it be what you have that they want, or taking your life for the mere pleasure that some demented people get from terrorizing others. I realize there will always be those people among us that no matter what happens, they will refuse to defend themselves and depend on others to do it for them. And....there will always be those people that will give their life to defend yours, whether they know you or not. Everybody should have to spend some time in the military.......maybe then they would have more common sense about what this world is.....reality check.

If you politely leave, they won't have you arrested. If you give them any lip, they can have you arrested and charged with armed trespass, a 3rd degree felony. Disney is private. Their house, their rules. If you choose to disregard their no-firearms policy, they can choose to ban you. Period, dot, end of story.

Do I think this is a smart policy? Hell no. Muslim terrorists look for gun-free zones with lots of unarmed people. But evidently Disney's legal department has decided that adding metal detectors and banning firearms minimizes their liability exposure.

There was a visitor at Animal Kingdom who had a pistol in his pocket that fell out by accident. He was asked to leave and he did so, he returned the next day with no problem at all...

I call it smart. Someday someone may save your butt because you don't want to protect it yourself. I have encountered hostile people on the beach and many other places.
Like I said, the day I feel that I have to carry a gun to the beach will be a very sad day. No offense but I think you all sound a little irrational

I heard on the news that all the Parks in Florida are now scanning people. I don't like amusement parks anyways. You ever try carrying your Metal Detector on a Roller Coaster?

Just curious.... What rationale / reason do you use when applying for a CCW permit?
Are certain states easier to get them in? I live in Calif. I hear they're near impossible to get.

I live in California and have had my CCW for a while it was easy to get it took a little time but wasn't an issue. My reason was for personal protection for myself and family it was a now issue.

That is totally false. The first time I was in the Magic Kingdom and I was politely asked to check my firearm with security. I did that with no problem. In fact, I was carrying my three year old and had been separated from my wife so he came behind scenes with me. They gave him Mickey Security stickers and played with him. No problem at all.

The second time I was in Disney Springs and I didn't realize I was not allowed to carry their either. I was with my nephew eating icecream at Ghiradelli and the cashier saw "a buldge" when I pulled my wallet out. They gave me the offer of checking or leaving. I chose to leave. We ate our ice cream as we walked.

Both times they were very polite and apologetic. They asked my profession, understand why I carried, and joked with me throughout the entire process.

Don't believe everything you hear. Disney was very nice to me.

Seriously!?

Claire,

I saw another post that I think was deleted. I didn't have time to respond. I would like to comment if it is okay...

Five years ago I would have been in complete in total agreement with you. I am a medical doctor and have dedicated my life to saving people. I hated guns and everything they stood for.

However, a couple of years ago my life, my wife's life, my child's life, and my puppy's life were immediately threatened with a real chance of being hunted down and killed. The bat and samurai sword underneath the bed no longer looked as helpful as I thought they were. I called two people simultaneously. Treasure Hunter and GIB. Treasure Hunter lived closer and he left his family in the middle of the night to come sleep at my house and protect mine. GIB lived farther away, but is a security expert. He established a security plan and outfitted my family with pepper spray and protected us for the next 48 hours until things were safe.

I called the police and they offered no help. This is the God's honest truth. I didn't like or believe in the right to carry guns; however, the first thing I did when my life was threatened was call somebody who had one and then pray they made it in time.

Since then I have purchased a firearm and spent a lot of money on lessons to learn how to defend myself. I now carry everywhere.

This is not meant to be inflammatory. I just wanted to relate to you...guns are not for everybody and they are a very serious responsibility. In the right hands they can save people's lives.

TH: if this is inappropriate please delete it; however, I think a lot can be gleamed from it.

Sincerely,
Crispin

I carry simply to ward off the pesky owners of the treasures I find, or to take out other detectorist's hunting in my area.... jk:laughing7:

No but seriously, I carry a Ruger SP101 .357 every single day. My wife carries a Sig Sauer 9mm. Like mentioned above, you hope you never have to use it but boy oh boy just imagine needing it and not having it. In fact, with this new type of terrorism rearing its ugly head, it might just be time to start packing the AR in the trunk. Crazy times are here. Please get armed and trained!

Crispin,

Wow, I'm sorry you had to experience that horror and I appreciate your explanation and I totally understand how your view has changed and I respect that. Honestly, I just become scared when I hear how many "nobody better come and take away my guns"!extremists I hear. The beach and metal detecting is a stress relieving enjoyable activity and I have never felt the least bit in danger and it saddens me that others feel differently. I appreciate your thoughtful discussion and best wishes

Couldn't agree with you more. I go to the beach for peace and serenity. The manatee that swims past is more valuable then 1000 golden rings. I love the sand, the waves, the wild life, and the sunrise. I don't carry when I detect. I am blessed enough to have friends like TH and GIB to protect me while I lead them to the Spanish treasure. :)

There's your problem right there. You are blinded by left-wing socialists who have SCARED YOU that guns and gun owners are evil, crazy and extremist. As a gun owner, I respect your right to not own a firearm, and I if you were my neighbor I gladly post a very large sign in my yard that you did not believe in gun ownership and that I would not use my guns to protect you or your property!

Claire, I'm with you. The day I have to carry a gun metal detecting, I'm done. I however will not mention anything about the larger fixed blade knife I use to dig with, however.

My son talked me into taking the "Weapons Carry" classes in order to get my permit. He and I was in the drive thru line at McDonalds. We just pulled up to the window and I handed the cashier my money. At that moment a man suddenly appeared at my window demanding money. I refused. The McDonald's cashier closed and locked his window and backed waaaaaaay away from the window. The assailant then tried to open my door, which I had locked. He reached in and was was trying to grab me and then my keys he was able to cut my arm with something causing it to bleed by the time my electric window had finally gone up. When he left, he broke off my mirror before taking flight. I was in shock, my cell phone battery had gone dead, the cashier a the window would not call the police because they did not want to get involved. My son took off on foot and followed the assailant. My son was able to call the police and when they arrived they took my son with them so he could point the individual out. This guy was in a crowd of 50+ people attending a football game, As soon as the police pulled up, THEY immediately recognized the assailant without any assistance. Turns out this guy had an extensive police record. He had just recently gotten out of jail after doing ONLY 12 months for causing injury to a police officer. The court gave this guy 2 years for what he did to me, and he was out in 18 months. I was shocked that he had NOT served MORE time on his charge of injury to a police officer. After they hauled the guy off, I went back to the drive thru window and asked for the food I paid for, they had just left sitting out for over an hour. I complained about the food being SO cold, ALL they offered me was a FRESH order of French Fries. Not only did they NOT help me while on their property while immediately in front of their window, they could not even care about my order. I never went back to that location.
Sorry to derail this topic, but for those that harbor ill feelings towards those that do "legally" carry, just keep in mind, SOMEDAY THE LIFE THEY SAFE MAY JUST BE YOURS, you don't have to agree, but until you are in someone else's shoes, don't knock them. You NEVER know when or where something life changing may happen.

Simon, what a frightening situation that must have been and the McDonalds employees displayed the lowest form of humanity. Imagine how much worse that situation could have been if guns were involved. Sounds like police handled it well and your son is very brave
