You can search through the group as it has been posted before. Someone posted the advertisement in one of the previous threads. They were sold at a profit to commemorate JFK. I can't remember the price exactly, but I think they sold them for about $5/each (in early 80's money that was a hefty premium).

I don’t think they’re worth much but I still keep them when I find them. Overall I have a couple dozen.

Sleepy, thanks for re-posting that old thread. I laughed at a post about giving one of the gold plated halves to a teller who thought the coin was "pretty"; I have done exactly the same thing.

These stamped and plated coins commemorate anniversaries of Kennedy's 1960 inauguration. They were punched and plated post-mint and sold at a premium in ads in magazines and papers. They are worth 0.50 each. I have found about 2 dozen of them plus about a half-dozen where some genius tried to melt off the insignificant amount of gold in the plating with a torch.
