Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

Found November 2006
After a few odd ball clad and my never ending variety of rusty metal, my signal hit really strong. At 2 inches I flipped up this little beauty. And you all know that of course I had my first large cent.....haha....nope ....Not to be.....Employers of Wausau Saftey Award ...Presented in recognition of your contribution toward the conservation life, health and happiness. I gladly accepted my award! This was from one of the first business's in Wausau ,given to employees at the end of the 1800's.

Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

Here's a circa 1820 New York Excelsior Button, simular to the one shown above in the post by kieser sousa (also from Upsate NY). This is only a scan of it, a little fuzzy and not as good as a camera pic but should do anyway.
Dug it in August 2006 at a big old brick house near Lake Ontario.

Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

This was found in Massachussetts in a park a couple years back. A little larger then a large cent :),I thought the same thing gypsy, the front says" Ward Beams International Auto Daredevil Contest". The back says" for good luck carry this" and has the Lord's Prayer.I don' t know it's age.

Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

"B. Ward Beam is credited as the originator of [auto daredevil thrill shows], debuting his Congress of Daredevils in Toledo, Ohio, in 1923. In 1928, Beam's show amazed spectators at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus, the first time an auto stunt show played a fair. Beam continued to operate at state and county fairs into the late 1950s.."
