Hello everyone...I have never had a cause to post in this forum before, as I had never found a complete point, but today was just unbelievable. I'm still in shock!

Here is the link to the whole story:

What I would like to know is....Are these Hillsborough Points?

I found 10 nice ones, and 3 broken tips in a hole while digging a piece of buckshot.

Dang I just logged on and saw this. That is truly a great find. I have found 2 in the same spot this yr but not the same type. 1 was a knife and the other was a point but both were made of the same type of stone. That is a find of a lifetime and I am glad you posted it for us to see. Thank you

I hope you don't mind my asking, can you show us the coordinates on the map where you found them? Just kidding!!! However, I do want to know, how many points must be found together for a find to be called a cache?
I would say two or more. The Neralich Cache found at Olive Branch, Illinois only contained two. Also caches do not have to be Points. The Grossmann Cache found near O'Fallin, Illinois contained 70 celts.

Congratulations Jon. That looks good up on top. Use a threaded rod with a brass tip. I went to a lighting gallery and got a brass one for a lamp for the tip.Just a hair larger than the rod and it sildes down easy for 4'. You can learn by the sound it makes when tapping things. Good luck.

Digging for buckshot and you come across those? Why is it some folks who aren't really looking stumble across a find like this.
Congrats! Find of a lifetime!

I used to live in O'fallon IL....

This is an amazing find. To say it's one in a million understates it's rarity. Amazing. If you're ever interested in just straight up giving them away give me a call : )

We made it back out to the site today. We probed and dug, and screened a few hours.....In the spot I found the cache, and in the spot where all the flakes were. I don't know if he knapped them where all the flakes were, or if that was the trash pile where he threw the flakes.....I would imagine that you wouldn't want to step on any of those sharp flakes, especially barefoot!

We didn't find any more points....and man! that was hard work....but I kept a few of the larger chunks of materal, and I found a small piece of pottery, and another piece of the 1830's-1840's wine bottle.

My dad spotted a musket flint, and I dug about 23 more pieces of buckshot from buck and ball loads. I think previous relic hunters might have got all the bigger musket balls, and missed the buckshot.

That's a real good spot you're on. You certainly did all the right things. That was obviously good ground for a very long period of time. I'm assuming there's a waterway close by..... I would definitely check the banks of that.

Flippin Stick n good luck :)
Awesome find!!!! I would compare those as to the Andices found in Tx. as far as rarity and desired by collectors. That is a VERY valuable find, and as part of a cache increased the value... In that size and condition you may as well hang up your metal detector and make a flipping stick....
