Stone artifact from S/E Michigan

This piece was found in the Onsted, Michigan in Lenawee County. I am posting this for a friend that would like any information on it. The discolorations he says are from candle wax .
I would appreciate any opinions as to function and age. I took several photos with different lighting.

Looks like a grooved ax to me & a nice find!

Looks like a 4/4 grooved axe to me late archaic 4 - 6000 bp they used them just as would you imagine an axe being used
