Detecting season is over in Berkshire county for 2008 :( But we have to keep busy,so i was going through some of my coins and putting them in protective holders for display. Well i had a ziplock bag with about 45 Buffalo nickles in it and as i was recording them i was also looking in the red book for the price for each of them, About half way through i picked up a 1936-S put that one in it's folder then i picked up a 1936-D looked at the book it read $1.50 for VG. Then i saw 1936-D 3-1/2 legs!!!!!!!!!!! :o so i looked at it closer with my mag glass and WOW I ALMOST FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR :o Could it be true?
Any thoughts from the experts on T-Net
P.S. This coin is in my colection and is NON DUG!

Thanks for looking
G1
The Buff on the left is the 1936-S for comparision
The Buff on the right is the 1936-D 3-1/2 leg I hope!

Hey guys, when you look at a 3 1/2 leg Buff. the 1/2 leg is showing but thinner. I'd like to see a closer pic and a "Stacks" auction 3 1/2 legger side by side Dickie. Can you get that posted? I think it could be one! :icon_scratch: :icon_study:  Sherm

On a 3 1/2 leg you WILL see the 4th leg only it will be "Thinner". :icon_study:

golden1, I'm no expert just beginning to understand coins, but I am with you it is a 3 1/2 legged buff.. From what I gather for this coin your looking at the front right leg calf bone is not fully punched it is real thin.. what I see with your coin is the same as the one on stacks! Hope a expert gets back to you soon!

Gonna have to say sorry its not official here is a 1937-D 3 leg of mine I know the year is different but the die mistake should be close and what you have is not official just appears to be wear to me.

Cw, not the same error but close yours the leg is entirely missing... Golden1 part of the leg is missing..CW did you look at the pic on stacks? that will show you what Golden1 is talking about.. I am still convinced it's a 3 1/2 leg

Okay,

I've taken three different pics of 36D buffalo nickels and created a side-by-side comparison.

The first buff is a true 36-D 3.5 leg variety, which sold for over $14,000 dollars. The second pic is Golden1's coin. The third one is a normal 36-D 4 legged variety.

What do you all think?

Nice nickel, but I wouldnt say it looks anything like the 3.5 leg, looks worn to me. The left side of the leg looks to be much higher in the side by side comparison. For what it could be worth though, send it to a good slabber, could be quite the return for you!!

Looking through my nickels.............

I thought I may have a 3 1/2 leg 1936, but within my ten rolls I found this, a 1914 D buffalo, what a surprise, my uncle left me these when he went into a nursing home in 1992, bless his heart, needless to say, I am quite excited, now to get it graded, I hope it at least grades as a good.......................
