Thanks! Definately not afraid of the dirt...been detecting since I was 12 (with Dad)...Linda, the other lady is new to the hobby and I think she has the bug, her hubby got her a detector for her birthday!

Your button is actually quite a bit earlier than the civil war, more like early 1800's. 1820's i believe. Nice finds :thumbsup:

Your button is what is known as a Great Coat button. The one piece versions turn up on 1820s/1830s sites. The two piece versions were in use as late as the 1850s.

That button is a nice find. Might be more there.

Looks like a fun hunt with friends. Nice finds, especially the button and shield nickle. I have found a few shields but none in that good of condition. :thumbsup:

Great finds ,you can drop that shield nickel in Worcestershire sauce,I found my first one last week.
After few days in the sauce I could not believe my eyes ,congrats again :icon_thumright:
