Howdy all,

I spent a few hours today at an area which was a provisioning stop for miners heading to the goldfields here in California. It was pretty trashy, but I did manage to eek out this scale weight:

It's clearly stamped "4", and seems to be made of brass.......

Man, I sure would have liked to have found whatever was being weighed on the other side of the scale!! ;)

Any ideas as to the age or other info, etc.??

Hmmmm, I don't know, but it is a cool historic find. I'd hunt that area some more...nice job!

It would be cool to print a copy of a map of that location from the 1800's and use it as a
backdrop for the wheight in a shadowbox. ( with the exact location of the find x'd in red).

Very cool!

it could have been used at the old Assay Office during the gold rush
