I thought so too but it is not. It was very technical and proved that if the ground was normal then there was no difference between the 950 and the D2. However, the more mineralized the soild conditions were, the deeper the D2 would go than the 950 coil. Can't find it and I looked and looked....

All DD coils are designed for highly mineralized ground but in normal to moderately mineralized ground a concentric of the same size will perform equally as well. DD's don't discriminate nearly as well as concentrics and love bottlecaps. So unless your soil is hot you would have no need for a DD other than better ground coverage as they detect equally as deep from tip to tip. There is no receiver for pinpointing so pinpointing is done off of either tip of the coil. Coin separation is a little better due to the narrow width ( two inches or so ) of the signal which is like a long wedge.
