If you see the one that is buy it now for $8500, there is rim damage on the front and back. Also look at the 7, appears to be to much silver buildup in that area. There are to many raised areas on that coin and I am afraid that it is one of the many 40 year old counterfeits. Not to mention the fact that it has been cleaned. Just look at he eagles wings all built up, it appears that this one was not caught by the grading service. Buildup occurs when the coins are cast from a mold.

I stand by my estimation of AU-53 for Neil....... It is a much nicer coin than this slabbed ebay unknown. Not to mention Neils is a "rare coin" allowing grading to even be a little more forgiving. :laughing7: AU-55 or better?

Neil, Congrats!
Been lurking and thought this coin is my introduction to you all. What a find, unbelievable. I live in Nevada and there were no
people (with coins) here in 1795. Not a chance I'd find one with my old White's VSAT. But, I do try. There are plenty of coin
collectors as well as detectorists that will be dreaming of your coin this night. Me too.
Thanks for posting and it is the 10 of 10! :icon_thumleft:

Re: 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dime! UPDATED PHOTOS!!!...Time to Sell?????

So, I have been following the auctions pretty closely since finding the coin in March. This one showed up earlier this week on Heritage auctions. I doubt mine would grade at MS-63, but it definitely would grade at least AU details. I may have to make my move pretty soon as you know how fickle the auctions are.

Thoughts??

Herbie, with the way you're going, you'll probably find one mixed in a pocket spill with a 1792 Half Disme :laughing7:

Neil, once again, awesome find! I was looking at the pic the other day for probably 10 minutes. This coin is a dream for many!

Thanks again for meeting up with me a few months ago in NJ!

1795 Flowing Hair Half Dime! Awesome Find. !!! Now it's time to --

have it GRADED and CERTIFIED by either ANACS or PCGS. Don't clean it or you "will" kill it ok. Do not handle it with bare hands either. The oil from your skin can etch it and thus destroy it ok. The find of a Lifetime. Way to go. PEACE:RONB :notworthy:

Re: 11/13/2011 UPDATE: SOLD THIS MORNING!!! 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dime!

11/13/2011:

What a great start for my birthday! I woke up to find an email telling me that my 1795 Half Dime sold on eBay this morning! After 6 months of conservation, grading and research, I got what I was expecting for a coin marked as "DAMAGED" by NGC.

Congrats on cashing out on your find! At some point, it's nice to know you can turn a profit off this hobby, even with the high price of gas dragging us down.
