Good evening everyone. This morning I was able to get out for a bit after finishing a few errands. I wasn't to excited or feeling it(lucky) but, I went anyway. Found an iron patch and it all started lol.... Just target after target and NO trash! This evening when I started looking at the finds I noticed one of them seemed different. I mean it felt thicker then the other three I found. As I was delicately cleaning it I noticed the chain. The one side looks good but, the other will be a challenge. In the three hours I was there these are my finds.

Thanks for looking,
Don

I added these two photos to show the slow and little progress I've made with the detail of this coin! Just taking my time. There is a coin shop close by any thoughts?

Thanks,
Don

I can't believe I didn't see this thread until today! Are you kidding me? I have seen more Pine Tree Shillings dug than these. This is the only one I have ever seen dug. Wow.. Absolute banner all day. A chain cent. Wow.. And the condition looks to be amazing! Can't wait to see it cleaned. I hope you will post

Can’t recall exactly but I believe that is the 4 th chain cent posted here on tnet in 5 years!
Be very very careful cleaning..... better yet don’t! Research cleaning that bad boy before you damage it! Congratulations 70!

I only remember one other on Tnet from a house demo a couple years ago, and it was in great shape. I think that was a chain anyway. Those are harder to find than tree coins. Holy smokes - if this thing isn’t up top by sunrise I’ll be shocked. Freakin awesome.

Too cool for words! You know what you have, and what you have to do. A progress report on the careful restoration of your historically significant find would be very much appreciated. As long as the copper isn't flaking, you should be O.K..
....and then guess what....BANNER !

Oh, my goodness, what a find. I just can't imagine. Admittedly, I wasn't sure what one looked like until I checked out a few images of them (specifically, the obverse) and that is as fine an example of early American art as one could ask for. A big congratulations on what definitely should be up on top. Take your time cleaning it. We'll wait...impatiently!

Guys please take the time to put in your BANNER VOTE for this find. I care little about value but in really rough condition this coin is easily $5k. Depending on how it cleans up it could easily be a $20k coin. It's rare as hell and is an important part of early American history. We never see these Chain cents. You will see at least 5 tree coins to every one of these. It deserves to be on the BANNER and should be a no brainer. I hate seeing this coin slip down the page. And we should not need a "cleaned" pic to vote it up.

Agreed, because God forbid any non-professional cleaning causes ANY degradation to this amazing prize find! No better pics needed!

Ahab , You really nailed it man ! - this find is so ridiculously BANNER that if it doesn't get up there, why have a banner ?? Only 36K of these ever minted ! 1793 is the first year that Cents were issued in America , and these chain cents were only issued for one year !!! Let's get this up top folks !!
