So my brother's inlaws home was built in 1794 and I hunted the yard about a year ago and found nothing. Some one had cleaned it out.Not even any clad . :dontknow:
I hit the yard again yesterday and and found a baggage tag and nothing else but large iron. I headed to the back field and there was nothing for most of the way out. When my machine went off which surprised me after the long silence. In the first bit of dirt there was a flat button! This is the first colonal era button I have dug in a long time . A foot away came a dropped musket ball and then another about 6 feet away another one.
Then the finds again became hard to come by .The big bonus was a cw minne that I dug about an hour later. I wish I could have made it here a few weeks ago before the grass started growing. It was fairly thick in some places.
I found three round balls and gave one to the inlaws ,one is chewed by what looks like maybe a squirl by the sharp teeth marks.
Can any one tell me what type of minne ball I dug? It is a two ringer. No coins but I did get to save a little history. :headbang:

Nice find and like Quindy said it is a Confederate Gardiner bullet. Looks nice. Tennessee digger

Confederate Gardiner, nice !Thanks for the id. :notworthy:

Quindy, the tag has 315 stamped in it. Maybe from a hotel or something.

Good stuff Trent! I got out once this week and found an impact CW bullet, a small buckle and some pennies at an old house. That has been all the action on this end.

Very nice finds and based on your finds you should really detect all around that property including any wooded areas. The was some bit of CW activity in that area perhaps a past owner.

The brass tag looks to be a coal miners tag. The number/tag was attached to the cart that the miner filled, so when it was brought to the surface, he was credited.

Congrats on the Confederate Gardiner bullet there! Makes for a nice hunt :icon_thumright:

I see you must be up here in Canonsburg

Those coal tags are all over the place here in PA. I just dug one Sunday that says KEYSTONE 294.

I am really surprised to see that Gardiner turn up here of all places :o

Steve,I am in Knoxville for the next 5 weeks for training. I will give ya a call when I roll through Canonsburg some time this summer. :icon_thumright:

Nice finds from a hard worked site, birdman.

What detector were you using? If there wasn't much junk iron you could try a large coil. I've found at these kinds of sites I had to hunt at a snail's pace.

Badger

Badger, how ya been? I am using the Etrac now a days. Seems to be a real good all around machine but I still have a lot to learn to get to the full potential out of her.

Good job on your two ringer!!!! It is in great shape!! I am soooooo jealous!!! Well done!!! :icon_thumleft:
