1800's Homemade Silver Wedding ring and Bird Whistle

Last week I got out and braved the ticks (and lost the batlle) and hit a mid to late 1800s homestead. Besides the usual shotgun casings, Harmonica pieces, copper and iron junk pieces, I did manage to find a nice silver wedding band that appears to be homemade, perhaps from a coin, not sure and a Partridge on some logs that has been identified as a broken 1800s whistle. No coins found at this site yet, but I am sure there might be one there, but it can wait till next fall.

Congrats on the nice finds. Love that ring!

The ticks are a huge problem up here in New England too. HIGHLY recommend using Permethrin spray on your clothing. Sawyer is a common brand.

My shoes, socks and pants were treated, but I was in high bush blueberry territory and they were getting on my upper body, not the leg area, the Perethrin work super on chiggers, but on some ticks, they just seem to scoot a bit faster off the treated areas and survive to get you where the clothing is not treated. Sort of a double whammy on the spray, if you use it in warm weather and sweat the sprayed clothing can burn your skin, or cause rashes from the harsh chemical that it is, so I usually do not hunt in warm weather with treated clothing. (75* and up).

Valid point! I usually treat my clothes from the waste down, and then cover the upper half with deet (40%). Sawyer's is only 0.5% Permethrin. You can get chemical burns/rashes? I've never experience that, but it is a chemical. I believe the Army uses 100% Permethrin in Iraq/Afghanistan. Can only imagine what we're doing to our troops. Hmm.

I hate ticks!

Great finds Don,I like the ring but the whistle is a cool find to me.

Congrats on the finds Don!
The ring is really cool. It looks to have a rolled and pounded style.
I have one from the late 1800 that has the same look.

Good luck and hope you find many, many more!

Those are nice finds Don.

Appears I have found the same one this spring. It came from the best cabin site I found this yr. I cleaned mine up but can't find the pic. Looks like lead to me. It is thin and has some detail under the crud.

It is a shame they are broken. Mine is also. No markings on it at all. I'd say it dates to around the civil war. I was finding indians around it with eagle buttons. All found on the same hill side.

You basically just ID mine for me. I did not know what it was until I saw your post. Man another thing is the growth is already unreal. I went out Sunday to a site and I said to myself foundation season is coming to a end here soon for me.

I'm gonna put a pic up. What do you think. The same one or different type.

Two really great finds Don, I would have never guessed whistle until you put the rooster up, love it. I agree if that ring could talk the stories it would tell. NICE!
