+I posted the front of this 1829 half that I uncovered a while back near an old Inn. It looks in great shape but I am not an expert on grading. I just want to post it again, front and back and see if anyone can help with the grading. Lar

That is a nice coin, has it been dipped or cleaned? Could be BU and worth a cool thousand or so. Im no expert though.

I agree with Mountain Man 2, you should have it graded professionally.
Or print out the front and back pictures and go to a library and look in a Photgrade book in the hobbies/coin collecting section, you should get pretty close to knowing the condition.

Very excellent coin!!! ;D ;D

Did you clean it?
I'd say it's an AU or better, unless you cleaned it.

Wow!, awesome coin, Congrats!!!
I don't know much about grading, but I would also have to agree with mountainman 2. You should have that one graded by a professional. If it hasn't been cleaned, I'd say, it's worth some big $$$. Even cleaned it would probably still be worth quite a bit...
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Treasure is where you find it!

Some times its just dumb luck.Last night after not sleeping at all,I was working on an e-mail to a fellow treasure hunter. And my paper kept sliding down my desk.I buy old flea market and thrift store cabinets to use as computor shelves.loose boards and all.
I though about breaking it up and burning in the fireplace. But I needed a paper support
so I put it on the table saw and started cutting it down. The 2x4 was hollow and a silver
1890 dollar fell out and a roll of silver dimes a 1973s dollar and a steel wheat penny. It ha
been cut in half hollowed out in the middle and filled tight with saw dust and the coins.
and last week I found an old (Ithink wells fargo lock) it was stamped W-F.Sometimes
its just dumb luck where you find things. :)

AU or better Larry, possibly MS-60. Send it off and have it graded, if you cleaned it any whatsoever send ot to ANACS, they will at least give it a net grade. And dont tell them you found it in the ground, these grading companies dont like metal detector coins unless they are a key date or rare coin and then they will grade them because it makes them look good. Its kinda like some coin dealers, i tried to sell a cleaned coin to one and he didnt want to pay anything for it, but i noticed in his store he had several coins that were cleaned and he wanted near top dollar for them. Go figure. Anyhow Very Nice coin HH Coinman66

Would PCGS grade a coin that has been dug up (if it is not dipped or damaged)?

How would they know unless you told them?

Would water count as cleaning? And if there's dirt on it?

No, you can rinse it off with filtered water, drying with a super soft towel, not rubbing the coin at all, but letting it "air dry". Make sure you use filtered water to prevent minerals/etc from coating the coin.

using my photograde book and assuming that there are no scratches that will detract the grade it goes at least AU-50.
By the price guide i have right now they are going for 325.oo in AU 50.
I would have it proffesionally graded as it may grade higher.
Nice coin
