1833 East India trade colony 1-Keping(never heard of one either?) ...come tak...

I went out today after work for a quick hunt. Out popped an old copper. I couldn't ID it so I posted on "What's it" and it was quickly id'd! (Thank you Bramblefind!) Turns out it's a Keping associated with British & Dutch East Indies trade / colonies. Also found modern two silvers.

Funny enough I found a 1790 Dutch East India company Duit across the street this summer. Connection?!

Enjoy

Steve

Something different, now that's something I like!

It's cool right? That's why I posted it IH, and also since what we dig has so much history behind it I figured why not share what I learn from finds as well. I'm glad you enjoyed. Happy digging

Steve

Hi Sut - it's from Central/northern New Jersey. I thought it was a horse until I was corrected about it being a rooster.

I found an 1830s East India 1 Pice many years ago at a 1800-1840 occupied site and I considered how the heck did this get here and used, well, perhaps it was good tender during the period of the Hard Times tokens being used, copper is copper. Nice find btw,not too many seen over the years, but I do know of one or two being found this year and I believe they were also in NJ. Don

A lot of strange relics and coins have been showing up here and next door. This one is no different and I think represents the broad demographic of people came through here in the 17th/18th/19th century. I'm actually working on an article about the area.
