Nice rare campaign medal. It's copper correct?

Some were struck in white metal and some in copper.

Incidentally, the reverse inscription refers to a copyright of the portrait held by William Garl Brown, a Richmond, VA artist.

Very nice! You said you found it in the woods behind your house? Have you found anything else back there? What's the history?

[/I found it in the woods behind my house in central Va. My son and I have hit or property pretty hard but it still turns up a surprise now and then. We've found dozens of bullets, mostly three ringers and spencers, spencer cartridges, a hammer off a musket(possibly an enfield), an 1838 seated dime and an enfield nose cap. I feel very lucky to live where we do! As far as the history, there was a fairly large cavalry battle in the area and the roads were part of Stuarts ride around McClellans army and was a main route for Grant on his way to cold harbor]
