What's on it? I just see two people figures. What does it say? What's the backmark?

It looks to be NY but I think it's probably a police button. Can you post a pic of the back that will help date it better. As to worth it's not worth much a couple bucks at best. I know it probably worth a lot more than that to you as you dug it. It looks like it could have been burnt so be careful cleaning it. I think I would soak that one in peroxide for a while and see how it comes out.

Looks like a nice button, it looks like it should clean up pretty good. I'd give it a soak in peroxide for a bit and see what happens. :icon_thumleft:

the back still has a bunch of junk on it and does mot seem to be cleaning very well
the buttons is an officers uniform button (ALBERTS NY 31B) from the 1880's

It is Albert's 31B but no where in Albert's does it say it's a military officers button or 1880's Sorry.
The button looks burnt. If so you may not be able to get the button very clean without losing detail.

the explorer is a great machine
fisher2 now wants one but thats gonna have to wait a bit
