I cannot really tell if it looks like gold. If it doesn't look like the regular color of a penny, depending on where it was stashed, maybe it is just the patina.
We really need a better picture.

I think its plated, and probably not gold either, found a few coins that were plated. weigh the coin and find out for sure, and if I'm not mistaken it should weigh 3.11 grams. If it weighs more, then its a good possibility its plated!! Just my 2 cents!

The picture is not clear, try scanning it.
Looks like a rusty patina almost normal looking to me.
Could be some weird chemical reaction with something.
Plated? Maybe. Hey you never know, people have done stranger things.

Maybe it was stated a little strongly in the first post,but in this case the poster asked if his find/coin could be real.
So the rules really are not being broken.
i agree with the others.It appears to be a patina of some kind.Due to cleaning or being stored with some other metal.

Anyway, I think its probably been cleaned, and/or got a patina from being somewhere.
It looks like it was dipped in Tarnex.
