Just starting to get into helping the husband with dimes a little. I hate how small they are & they make my hands cramp when I first start doing them but it gets better. I did pretty good today getting a few silvers but I found my first Canadian silver =D I'm learning more & more each day! Just thought I'd share my progress with everyone. I'm still very new at all of this CRHing but it's pretty darn addicting.

Nice find they are hard enough to come by for all you see down here. I have found 5 silver sailboats that were good from the hundreds that fooled me at first. I can usually tell by the bigger ridges in the rim and the too silver shine instead of the white of a real dime anymore but still get caught at first.
A nice older guy that I worked for the last four or five years passed away recently and my wife and I were helping his wife clean out his bathroom and closets, she can't move too well herself and we didn't want her trying to reach for things and get hurt. He had 2 fireproof lockboxes that she couldn't open, she was looking for any money he might have had hidden and a gun, and she wanted me to break into them for her. I found the keys on the closet shelf and opened them but nothing was in them so she said my wife could have which ever one she wanted. The one my wife picked had a couple of Canadian coins and a 1950 5 Pfenning coin in it which I showed her and she said keep them. When we got home, I got my glasses and saw that one quarter was a 1943 Canadian so I have my first silver Moose.

Congrats!!! I have had Canadians save a hunt MANY times. Keep a magnet handy. I have found a .999 finesilver from 2002 in circulation. Test all years with a magnet if it doesnt stick weigh it.

.999 silver would only be a proof, so you should be able to tell.

I lived in Canada for a number of years when I was about as tall as a stack of half dollar boxes but I always kept those darn coins, thought they were the coolest thing.

I'm flying back home to a place i know oh so well in September and plan to go through my giant Cutty Sark Whiskey bottle which I filled a number of years ago to see what kind of gems I collected without even knowing it!

Yes!!!

Use this as reference:

Technical Aspects - Canadian Circulating Coinage

The proofs are not included, so just ask one of the Canadian CRHers for that.

Well aware it was at one point a proof. It looked like a normal coin by the time it made it to me. Not sure what happened to it, but it has a matte finish now.
