Hi guys and girls,

I found this a while ago in a small privately-owned field rumored to have been a temporary camping spot for the 2nd NJ Regiment in 1779. If I put two and two together, does it equal 2? Your input is greatly appreciated! I also found 2 unfired musketballs at the same site which has me leaning towards my hopes of 1779.

Thanks,

RelicRick

Can't say for sure but I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I found a button with a 1 on it a while back and I've never had it confirmed for sure but it sure looks like a match in the Revolutionary War Buttons book.

Good luck

I hadn't thought of a hat emblem...I've been thinking it is a pin based upon the back nubs...hmmm, now you've got me thinking! Thanks! BTW there are no dates on this piece as far as I can tell. I've been searching the internet looking for one just like it, but no success yet. I will say the style of the number does match other buttons from that era. Keep the suggestions/ thoughts coming!
