Hi all,
Got this yesterday and was frustrated at how worn it is, but managed to get some pretty definitive picks that look like it is indeed a 'D'.

I dont know, thats a hard one to tell. I am by no means an expert, in fact im a neophite considering the vast amount of knowledge in that world. In my opinion it almost appears to be to low for where the "d" would be... Again, I admit that I know practically nothing in terms of coins. I hope you can find a way to get it authenticated one way or another. It sure would suck to have one that really "could be" but have it be just out of range of being able to determine for sure one way or another...

Good luck.

let us know if you can get it authenticated.

Chris.

Looks like there might be a D there. First stop should be your local coin shop and if he thinks it looks good, then off to PCGS. Then might as well top it off with a trip to CAC, then back to PCGS for a +, then get Secure Plus, haha. Ok ok... I kid I kid... Go have a local expert check it out though, worry about PCGS, CAC, Secure Plus later.

The mark looks too big and too low to me . The top of the mark should be in direct line with the top of the letters in "ONE". I don't think it's a mint mark at all.

Last year I found a 16 D that was dificult to see. I brought it to a coin store and was told it probably is, but I should send it out to have it authenticated. Long story short version, It was in fact a 16 D. It was graded GD 4 with environmental damage. Ugly coin, but I still sold it it for three hundred dollars. Good luck.

I'm not sure about the 1916-D Mercury Dime but not all of the D's are going to be on the same level of the dime if it's like other coins. For example, I know of at least 3 varieties of the 1909SVDB wheat that all have the S in slightly different places.

I hope that's a D, it would be an amazing find even with the wear!
