2 hour's later....Unbelievable....

I just got finished posting the "clip on" and finished cutting the grass, weed wacking and the usual after grass cutting add on's....Like I said, gonna go back up to the pool area at this hill outside the fence.Too good to be true....I don't know what it is,thinking maybe a neckerchief slide, way too big for a ring...I can't believe it,Found it and said that's enough for tonight, getting dark any way.Looked for what might have been inside as alway's with no luck....This place is has definetley never seen a MD before...Guaranteed!!Third silver since Friday....100 yd.'s from the house....Still can't believe it.Kinda squashed but I'll take it anyday.....Be back tommorrow, how could you resist.....HH!!

Re: 2 hour's later....Unbelievable....

It appears to me to be squashed inward on the sides. If this is true, then the ring would not be quite as long as it is right now, making it more likely that it is a ring that contained a large stone.

The jeweler should be able to get it back into shape for you and put a stone in it if you desire.

It is a cool coversation piece as it is, as well as a great addition to your hedge against inflation.

Congrats on a nice find!............HH

That's awesome civilman.

Real neat olf antique ring. The old swimming pool area's can be really good. Most people never get a chance to huntinside of the fence. I'm sure your gonna pull up more there.

Re: 2 hour's later....Unbelievable....

It sure is big, but I would agree that it is/was probably a turquios ring. My sister used to wear those god awful big rings in the 70's & 80's. The bigger the better back then.

If you don't find the stone, you still have a big hunk of silver. Even better yet. You have a fantastic location to hunt!

Congratulations and keep us posted on the finds from that spot!

Re: 2 hour's later....Unbelievable....

Civil, love that ring. Congrats! It's too bad about the big stone missing though. It was probably a black onyx stone in the center although just an educated guess. Turquoise usually has coral as a second stone. The other little missing stones if I see them right looks to be marcasites (which is actually iron pyrite) see below.

Nice chunk of silver! If the center stone was black onyx it may have been a Victorian mourning ring. Or it could have contained a lock of hair from the dearly departed and then been known as a Victorian mourning hair ring. Such rings were worn by a woman to mourn her dead husband or child. Whatever the center contained, it's a very nice piece as is, congratulations.
