Hey guys,

My buddy sent me these pictures of a 2 Reales that he found on the beach yesterday after the storm we got. I'm hoping that an expert may be able to help with ID. He thinks the date reads 1784 but not sure. I have a couple 2 Reales and the shield is different on mine. Any help would be appreciated.

Happy new year and happy hunting.

Nice recovery on that one. Looks like its been in the sea for a long time.
Here is one that looks like yours. The shield is different for sure. Thought it was a fake lol

These counter-marked 8's with the Kings Head had an interesting expression at the time;
''The head of a mad-man on the neck of a fool''

Could the coin that my friend found be the same type as the 8 Reales posted above?

If you can see the counter-mark, then yes. Or its one without the stamp.

So are these just a different variety of a genuine coin?

The shield is different because it was made in Spain instead of Mexico or one of the South American countries. Nice find!
