On a last minute decision, I headed up towards my cornfield today to do a little prospecting, I was hoping it was cut, of course it wasn't, so I figured id head a bit more north to a spot I did last year, I got there and decided "ehh, just a bit farther north" to maybe find a new spot, and before I knew it I was 56 miles from home lol, I found a nice 1870s home and the lady was younger and as I started my pitch she said "lemme guess, you want to metal detect here", of course I said yes, lol she said numerous people have been there the past couple years and in her words, go ahead but "its been pounded", you know me.......GAME ON!, literally my first target was a wheat, I though Hmm, pounded huh???, I kept digging deeper clad, and about every 3rd or 4th target was a wheat, then I got the 46 roosie, and this really cool token that I have to research, it says one penny on the front and 1845 on back, 20141009_165054.jpg 20141009_165110.jpg I also got an 1903 indian and a 36 merc that looks like its been through a lawnmower or two......plus the nice heap of clad you see here, not to bad for "POUNDED" right??? 20141009_161900.jpg 20141009_165029.jpg 20141009_161924.jpg 20141009_165306.jpg Thanks for looking and HH!!

Your penny token has inscribed the shape of a "key stone" for building arches and what not. Penn R.R. among others uses or used the key stone as there logo for years.

Your "token" is actually what is known as a Masonic penny - from the Towanda, PA chapter of the Masonic Lodge (which was founded in 1845). These were used all over and were used as pocket pieces by members who received them when they were "made a Mason".

The fact that the lady said it has been pounded doesn't bode well. We were wondering how many people detected up there weren't we?

Maybe the ground was pounded with their boots as they hurried through the yard?

With the amount of targets I dug id say they were likely slicing and dicing like Zorro himself

Thanks! I wasn't sure what I had at first, any idea on the age? I'm assuming then 1845 is just the date the free masons was started

Good finds. Like the token. My father in law was a 32nd degree Mason. Also like when land owner tells you that lots of others have detected there and then you show them what they missed.
