On a last minute decision, I headed up towards my cornfield today to do a little prospecting, I was hoping it was cut, of course it wasn't, so I figured id head a bit more north to a spot I did last year, I got there and decided "ehh, just a bit farther north" to maybe find a new spot, and before I knew it I was 56 miles from home lol, I found a nice 1870s home and the lady was younger and as I started my pitch she said "lemme guess, you want to metal detect here", of course I said yes, lol she said numerous people have been there the past couple years and in her words, go ahead but "its been pounded", you know me.......GAME ON!, literally my first target was a wheat, I though Hmm, pounded huh???, I kept digging deeper clad, and about every 3rd or 4th target was a wheat, then I got the 46 roosie, and this really cool token that I have to research, it says one penny on the front and 1845 on back, 20141009_165054.jpg 20141009_165110.jpg I also got an 1903 indian and a 36 merc that looks like its been through a lawnmower or two......plus the nice heap of clad you see here, not to bad for "POUNDED" right??? 20141009_161900.jpg 20141009_165029.jpg 20141009_161924.jpg 20141009_165306.jpg Thanks for looking and HH!!

Yes, 1845 is the start date of that particular lodge. These generally date from around 1900 perhaps even to the current time. If I recall, somebody is working on a catalog of all known Masonic pennyies, but it is a work in progress. You might contact the Towanda lodge - I think it is still active. History of Union Lodge, No. 108, F. & A. M. Towanda PA., Codding In many cases, the owner of the penny engraved his "mark" on it - I don't know whether each lodge kept track of these or even whether yours has such an engraving.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what I had at first, any idea on the age? I'm assuming then 1845 is just the date the free masons was started
