Got permission to hunt a old a field close to a historic site...

Found what appears to be a old Acadian foundation....the ground around it is loaded with iron...prolly a lot of relics to be found there for sure.

The coin was identified in the ..What is this ?.. forum as a 1843 Nova Scotia Penny.

The other coin I don,t know what it is...the hole looks too perfect to be from someone doing it in the backyard.

Any ideas on the identity of the relics ?

Nice finds! The iron next to, and bellow the axe head looks like a gourge. This still is a popular woodworking tool for cutting groves, and they are also used in turning by lathe operators.

Sites old as Acadian times could hold just about anything. After the Acadian expulsion, British settlers took advantage of the areas cleared by the French, layering sites together, anything good could be there !

gotta love the ole Acadian sites. im waiting for a few farmers over home to get their harvests in so I can get back to the swingin I had to put on hold last spring. one field has produced two toasted lg cents and a 17... I believe 48 lg cent. curious about your nova scotia penny tho... It must be a one penny token? Ive got an 1856 province of nova scotia one penny token, it has queen vic and mayflower on it, and its quite a bit larger than the minted canadian lg one cent coins.

that coin is very large..my biggest coin yet....50% as big as the Canadian 1912 one cent coins

relic hunting hasn,t caught my interest yet..but perhaps I should be digging more of the low numbers !!!

You are correct Patriot....I,ll give it a go when I get a full day off from fishing--see what I find.

Also.. I found something that seemed kinda odd...but it was too heavy to bring out.

It was bowl shaped..iron...about 1.25 inches thick....and with jagged edge..almost looked like the end of a cannon... same size roughly... no idea really except it is very heavy.
