I asked the owner of this old 1870's brick house if it would be alright to hunt and at first he said he had a detector and wanted to go over it himself. I told him that if he needed any help with his machine to give me a call. He called me last week and wondered if I could give him some tips. I hunted with him for about an hour when he told me it was more fun for him to just watch me. I ended up finding a couple wheaties and a 1898 barber dime. I let him keep the dime and he even showed me inside the house. Then when I was ready to leave he says go ahead and hunt it whenever I want so I went back today and found a 1887 V nickle and 4 indian heads. One being a 1864 L. The nickle and two ih's were in the same hole. No silver this time but havent hit the back yard yet. I cant wait to go over the rest of it. IMG_20131023_152458_650[1].jpg

Nice finds. I like the looks of the two indians that were in the coin spill. Easy to see what part of the coins were exposed to the environment and picture how they were positioned in the ground for so many years.

Jvav,
Way to go on the coins and being generous too.
Your 1864 IH brings back some great memories. I dug one back in 2009 and it had the "L" (Longacre) mark too:

Check yours very carefully for a double die error. Attached are a few photos of the one I dug. At that time it was my oldest coin. Like an idiot I sold it to another Tnet member for $125. A lot of money for a penny, but I wish I had it back now. :BangHead:

Congrats to you & good luck at that spot,
MM

Here's a better pic of the 1864 IH. It was also one of the coins in the spill so thats not a shadow and that is the first V for me too. The 1884 is one of the best IH detail wise I have found but someone stamped it with a 6 or 9 for some reason and was also in the spill. I had a blast today gonna try to get back over there before the ground freezes.
