Filling for a new claim is always open but filling on existing claim that's where the problems start. Don't rely on the BLM for the status of the area you want to claim. The county recorder's office is where you should confirm the status of the area you want to claim. Remember those who filled a SMW have till the end of December to finish their obligation's to keep their claims. good luck

Thanks for that ET.

I’m sure others will chime in on when the 2023 season started.

It‘s related to Bridge Claims.

12:01 am September 1 is the legal start of the federal mining year Chuck.

The date is set by Congress, as is the December 30th labor deadline. Those both have changed some over the years but the current start date is as stated above.

If your filings and/or fees were postmarked August 31 you are good to go.

Thanks Clay! What about locating a claim on Aug 31 vs Sep 01?

If a claim was located on Aug 31 would this then require an additional maintenance fee payment on Sep 01?

Yep - That's a bridge claim. You would have to pay twice. Once for the last day of the 2022 mining year and once for the 2023 mining year.

Sounds like August 31 was an expensive day for someone this year. :BangHead:
