Hey all,

Purchased a 24" Bazooka Sniper last month and FINALLY got a chance to try it.
Boy it sure is hard to find time....harder than finding gold!!

So last week I had an appointment with a Vendor of ours in Monrovia CA. at 11:00am, so since the East Fork is so close, I took this opportunity to get my newly acquired Sniper into some water.

Rolled up at about 5:45am and started walking in.
I was just going with fate here. No set place in the canyon. I just decided that I was going to walk for a good 1/2 hour and drop it in. We had some good rains recently, so I was banking on some possible flood gold being freshly deposited.
The area I ended up at was about 2mi. in, found a nice bend and hit it the inside corner.
After getting set up, it was almost 6:45 and I figure I had til about 8:30 before packing it up, hiking out, getting cleaned up and driving into Monrovia for my meeting.

An hour and 1/2 is all I had to dig.
Started digging behind boulders on the inside of the bend.
trying different spots all within the area.
No time to pick it up and move if nothing was showing. So I just shoveled.

I think I had the Sniper set up OK.
Water was flowing good (decent V) and majority of material was getting cleared from the grizzlies.

Beautiful morning and location.

Hammered it hard for a little more than an hour.
Didn't bother to pan it out there. No time.
Dumped my cons into a zip lock bag, to go thru at home.

Went thru it at home and at least I did not get skunked.

(This is a penny FYI)

The thing that got me about this gold, and I noticed it the first time here too, this gold LOVES to float.
When panning it out I watched these little guys just jump on top of the water and swim away.
Jet dry was mandatory.

So for the time I had and the hapless way of picking my spot, I had fun and got color.
The Bazooka was great and seem to catch what I fed it, albeit only four specks.
The lack of classifying was really great. It is a small unit, so you can't feed it too fast.
But I just filled my pan with material and pawed into the sluice.

Next time I go, I will give myself all day.
I will go to some solid locations I have picked out, and not just go willy-nilly either.
So some stuff was learned and I had fun.

Cheers all.

I really don't have time either. I have four kids and they go to three different school. One is from my previous marriage so I have her all week and mom picks her up Wednesday and drops her off around eight. As u can see it's hard for me to do it too but any lil time I have I head for the hills. I live In West Covina east of Los Angeles. I need to figure out how to do it like u did lol. Good job and good luck out there.

Congrats on getting the Zooka in the water! It's amazing how it catches that tiny gold huh.

So I hate to be the one to say this but I think the reason why you had the floating issue is because I don't think it's gold. Chunks that size should not float at all.

Hey David, you could be right on that as I am SO new to this still.
But for the sake of my sanity and ego, I am going to continue to believe I got some Au. :tongue3:
And it's still pretty to look at.

Cheers.

I get chunky looking gold that floats a lot. It can just get up on top of the water sometimes but the surface tension doesn't let it back down, I just poke it and it sinks right down and stays with the rest of the gold.
