Bought a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 at a yard sale for 25 bucks today.

Got home and decided to try it out in my yard. The house was built in 1914 and as far as anyone knows it has never seen a detector.

Spent about 40 minutes learning to understand what this machine is telling me. In that time I found a clad nickle, a hot wheels car, a neat old metal toy horse and......three Wheaties!!!

Only one has a date I can read, 1937. The others are corroded too much. One is 193? And the other is unreadable.

Also found a bottle cap from Clorox. Not sure when they last used metal bottle caps for bleach.

The secret to finding anything metal is not the amount of money you spend on your machine, but rather getting your machine over the metal.

You've got a couple of good finds there for your first hunt, good for you!

Keep practicing in your yard and perfect your digging technique before you hit the parks, people will roast you if they see you using a shovel in a public space or gouging huge holes in the earth.

And lastly.........have fun!

I have a digging tool from when I used to detect about 15 years ago. Some of my plugs are rather crude, but some more practice and I will be back in true form.

The horse toy looks like it used to be attached to something else. Probably a horse and wagon type toy. My detector kept giving different readings on each swing, one would read quarter, the next would be pull tab, so I decided to dig it and see what was down there.

I will be back in the yard later today and see what other goodies are lurking under the grass. I know there has to be some silver in there with the age of the pennies I found.

4 more wheat pennies. Still trying to learn the language of this machine. Signal seems to bounce from mid to high on these wheat pennies. Have yet to dig anything that gave a solid signal.

When the machine tells you there's something there, you might as well dig it. . . especially if it's a 1914 property.

The more you dig, the more you'll understand your machine. . . you'll hit silver soon.

Nice finds!
Looks like you've got a good spot.
Doesn't matter how much you spend on a machine if there's nothing good to dig.
Location, location, location!

Congrats on you MD score. Practice is king. I'm still learning my machine and I hope someday I'll be able to get it to pay for itself. GL & HH
