2nd visit to the park silver coin

manged to get to the park for a few more hours found quite a few coins including the 1942 silver sixpence looks like this park has never bean hunted would any one recomend cleaning any of these coins and if so how thanks for looking

Looks like a great hunt

You can wash silver coins off gently with water but it is best not to clean them.

UK Detectorist generally never touch public parks. Normally considered to be abit modern. I've tried our local park & found loads of £1 coins plus pennys & half pennys like yourself. It was clear to me no-one had done it. We have plenty of local detectorist but none had bothered.

I don't know how new to this your are but as soon as you can gain permission to do plough fields, the older your finds will get. (Roman etc)

Cleaning is always a sensitive subject & everyone does it different or not at all. If they were older more valuable coins I would say leave them alone. But as they have very little value you can do as you feel fit.

You could buy a cheap electrolysis kit like this one: (Only use on common coins):

A less harsh method is black boot polish. Rub on, buff off (better for Roman coins).

Renaisssance Wax is excellent & being Museum Standard will not harm coins or artefacts.

Some use Hydrogen Peroxide (unvaluable coin use only)

For silver coins - best use Lemon Juice.
