Not if you dig everything, it would be a complete waste of money. The only exception being if you could not fit the larger coil in the space you are detecting. Oh yeah, and the smaller coil is lighter and more balanced. Small coils have better separation in trashy spots to pick the good targets from the garbage. You would only loose depth by switching. I love mine but I cherry pick for the good signals.

I have the 5x8 and use it in the iron infested areas and if I would go to a park. If I'm open field hunting the stock coil goes back on. I'm thinking of getting the bigger at pro concentric coil for even more depth in the open fields.
