got out today, tuesday, to an old stagecoach stop, and had a very pleasant afternoon of it.
once again the coppers were flying out of the ground, but they were a little older than the ones from a different site yesterday.
dates and types are:

George II halfpenny 1733?
Draped Bust cent 1797
Draped Bust cent 1798
Draped Bust cent 1800/79
Draped Bust cent 1800/79
Matron Head cent 1818

they're a little rough, but we like them that way.

happy hunting,

dwayne

Dwayne, you are livin' the dream! Not many people will ever experience a day like you did today. You are a copper-digging machine, keep it up!

The thing about your finds that I like is the coin details. Much better than the coins I can afford, even if they are porous.

Hey fellow New YAWKER, great spot you must have found there and great finds! Good for You! I live on Long Island, and have a buddy that lives in the Catskills and he's looking as we speak for places to detect of historical value.... :read2: :icon_thumleft:

thank you, friends, for your kind words.
i was lucky to hit a couple of good spots and pull some good stuff out.
don't know when, if ever, i'll have another streak as hot as this one.
here's some close-ups of the draped busts from yesterday.
i've been trying to identify them in 'penny whimsy' without any success thus far.
interesting reading, though.
the 1798 has a pretty big die crack running on the reverse from about 5:45 to 9 o'clock.
the two 1800/79's have the style II hair with the extra curl near the bottom of the portrait.
The second one is a little bent, and thus a little blurry in spots on the scan.
There's also some cotton fibers from q-tips, invisible to the naked eye,
but boy do they show up in the scans!
