A buddy came up from South Jersey so I had the rare chance to hunt all day long. We started at one of my favorite sites, a sports field which is covered with very old fill dirt and I got 3 Indians there. It was a great start to the day but soon I saw a truck pull up and start setting up for a kids fair so we had to move. The next spot was a park I saw on the map but never hit before. The first hour was pretty boring at the new park, only surface coins and iffy signals, almost nothing deep, so it seemed like the park had been hammered! I managed a surprising flat button with a cool striped reverse design, wondered how that had been missed but nothing deeper at all. So we wandered down to a hillside where some people were picnicking. Enjoying the smell of empanadas, we hit the taco truck for a quick refresher and began to hunt. Again, tons of shallow clad but almost nothing deep. We were thinking about leaving when I finally got a deeper signal, which was a 1944 wheat, so we hunted closer, and soon I found another wheat. a 3rd deep squeaker was even more exciting as I watched a 1937 Washington flip out and land on my drop cloth! Full of excitement we gridded it tighter and I ended the day with a 6-pack of silver, all from a very small area, and 8 more wheats. It was a great first hunt at a new site for sure!

Actually not, Testing, because the back flipped out first and I saw the shank. I was still pretty surprised to see a flat button, I thought I'd be looking at a 1960's Jefferson nickel or a pull tab for sure!

Congrats on a rare six silver hunt

very sweet hunt, or was it savory? good food with awesome finds like that and with a friend, as my grandkid would say, awesome sauce!

Now that is a great hunt. Anytime you can dig 6 silvers in one day is outstanding. Congrats.

Thanks everyone! This hunt was a LOT of fun and the tacos were great. Wish every one could be like this, but that's what makes the good hunts so memorable!

That's wild!! It has been a really loooonnngggg time since I had a six silver hunt.
Congratulations on a super hunt.

you had me at empanadas

I'm kinda curious about the button with the 13 stripes. What does the back look like? I found a similar one on a Rev War site that was occupied until about 1790. I believe it is an early patriotic button with 13 stripes for the 13 colonies.

Steve here's the back of the flat button. I don't see a backmark so maybe it could actually be a little older. That would be awesome if it was the patriotic type. What do you think?

I don't think it is an accident that it has 13 stripes. But I haven't seen any of these 13 stripe buttons listed as patriotic buttons. All you have to do is look at the Bar Cent for an indication that that was a patriotic motif. Here is the back of mine. You can see it is the same construction as the patriotic rattlesnake button beside it.
