A buddy came up from South Jersey so I had the rare chance to hunt all day long. We started at one of my favorite sites, a sports field which is covered with very old fill dirt and I got 3 Indians there. It was a great start to the day but soon I saw a truck pull up and start setting up for a kids fair so we had to move. The next spot was a park I saw on the map but never hit before. The first hour was pretty boring at the new park, only surface coins and iffy signals, almost nothing deep, so it seemed like the park had been hammered! I managed a surprising flat button with a cool striped reverse design, wondered how that had been missed but nothing deeper at all. So we wandered down to a hillside where some people were picnicking. Enjoying the smell of empanadas, we hit the taco truck for a quick refresher and began to hunt. Again, tons of shallow clad but almost nothing deep. We were thinking about leaving when I finally got a deeper signal, which was a 1944 wheat, so we hunted closer, and soon I found another wheat. a 3rd deep squeaker was even more exciting as I watched a 1937 Washington flip out and land on my drop cloth! Full of excitement we gridded it tighter and I ended the day with a 6-pack of silver, all from a very small area, and 8 more wheats. It was a great first hunt at a new site for sure!
