Shaun7 & I arrived earlier than Dad & did 9.5 hours searching (Dad did 6). We easy covered 1 acre of land each, it was a hard digging day :P Conditions were perfect.

We both got off to a good early start with a Roman Brooch (1st C) to me & a Medieval Buckle to Shaun7, but the middle of the hunt was tough. On the second to last run I got a 1697 Shilling off the top & a 1567 Hammered to top the day off :o

Dad got bored as usual & wandered off to to a nearby mound, his luck was in & he got a Bronze Age/Iron Age/Roman Bronze Awl (They changed very little & I guess this would be Roman :-\ ). A very nice example & only our second ever.

4 Scrappies
Late Medieval (I think) Key.
2 Hammered
1697 Shilling - Far rarer to get than a hammered, this is my best example ever.
Nice Tudor Button
Nice Victorian Military Button
17th century Buckle
44 buttons

& bits.....

A hard but rewarding day :)

A "day" out? A "day"?
I should be so lucky to find such wonderful items in a "day". ;D
Very nice finds.
I'm envious and can't wait until I can finely get out and do some detecting

I agree with Alchemy.
Even if those finds were between the three of you, you all had one h-ll of a day.
Cru- Your Dad looks like an ant out in that field. It must be HUGE!
Congrats on a fantastic day.

The picture only shows 1/10 of all the field. The rest of it is behind shot & in crop. This is just the area left un-seeded.

This is by far our largest field. About 300 acres I think. To begin with we wandered to find hotspots but didn't do so well. We nearly gave up, as the drive was wasting good detecting time. Now that we have no-where to go, we have got down & gridded the area left. I always encourage Dad to do this, & it can be hard sometimes but evenually it pays off

Quite a FINE hunt for you and Crusader Dad.

That's a lot of digging between the two of you.

I love the hammered of course, plus the later silver :o

But I also really like the nice big tombac button that was unmolested by the plow.

Bravo!

Yeah, the 1697 is a rare find specially in that condition, the button has a good loop as well. :) We are shortly going to return to the field.

Our record is 64 in 1 day (we only began counting this year, so no idea on previous years)
