I broke down and ordered some Nic-A-Date to check the solid roll of Buffalo nickels that I had with no dates. I was shocked to discover the following!

1913 Var 2 x 3 ( non raised ground variety) 29.9 million
1913 S Var 2 ( non raised ground variety) 1.2million - Rare date!!!!
1914 - 20.7 million
1915 - 21 million
1915 S - 1.5 million
1917 S - 4.2 million
1918 - 32.1 million
1918 D - 8.4 million

all other dates were in the teens nothing older than 1920. I am glad I got that nic-a-date now. filled some holes in my book for now until i can find better one but WOW! I am surprised!!!

thanks for the info I will have to try that one day. I ordered a bunch of airtights and bought the nic a date at the same time. free shipping so thats why i went ahead and ordered. HH

great finds. Yes, the ones that are dateless area almost always from teh teens. that's becaude they changed the way they made the coins later, so that this problem did not exist like it did in the early days.

as for the nic-a-date substitute. Once you buy a bottle, you hvae it for about .... 65 years. So you won't need the substitute. HA. that stuff lasts forever!

That's not true. The Buffalo Nickels always had the design error of the date being in relief and were never changed. You must be thinking of the Liberty Standing quarter, which they changed later so the date was below the rim.

Once you buy a bottle, you hvae it for about .... 65 years. So you won't need the substitute.

But you have to buy it in 65 yrs, with the other one, you don't need to.
