Went to a field close to a town founded by the Romans in 1st C. We didn't expected much because it's too far from the former Roman Vicus and too close for the farms. But fields close to old towns can hold finds from it's history and we were not disappointed.
Lots of musket balls as there was action from 30 years war till prussian times. Still waiting for a cannon ball there.
Buttons, watch winder, buckle, religious pendant, a couple coins with three Roman coins and one silver made the day complete. A bit weird were the bunch of ear marks(?) out of this field.
My personal best find of the day was a chat with a farmer i had by the end of the day who pointed me to 2 new sites i didn't have in my records. :headbang:

A very nice day indeed.

Funny thing is I sit and daydream at some of my sites about what occurred 300 years ago. You sites are instead 2000 years old. That's incredible.

Is that 1790 a Dutch Easy India Duit? I can't quite see but it looks a lot like one I found once.

Thanks Scrappy, that copper is a fairly common coin of the former duchy here. Bad thing is i don't have a single one you can call Album Coin. All are corroded to death.

With our sites you're right. But... I guess the feeling is the same. We just grew up with our history. Just old sites. Ours are 2000 years and we are dreaming of finds and you dream of the next cool Colonial find. :occasion14:

now my 1908 V nickle does not seem like an "old" find anymore. lol. i would love to hunt places like that. so amazing. congrats.

I like to talk to the farmers when they have all work done. Harvest is almost done, just a bit sugar beet's still in. Now they are stress free, not like in early fall when the fields were dry to the bone and they couldn't get the crops out. The right time to chat and haul some info. :occasion14:

Very topical, Cru'Dad recently heard from the FLO that finders use the excuse that the farmers are too busy, not to show them their finds. Well, you just proved its all about the timing & if you have good relationships you know when this is. Not hard to make an effort.

Great finds, Lu! Looks like it was a fun day! WIsh I could hop over and join the fun, next year hopefully! Is the silver a Groschen or Kreutzer?

Nice to see you post. Nice assortment of finds. Congrats on gaining some new info from the farmer. That's often our best find on a given day

Congratulations on the cool relics! :occasion14:

Thanks all! :icon_thumleft:
It's always fun to dig a field where everything turns up. Now on to new adventures!

I'm always amazed at the finds from your part of the world, and very much appreciate you sharing them with us!

Not in good shape but at least you found 2 Romans.
Congrats.

Amazing finds! We can't imagine finding that much stuff in a day! Congrats. -Lisa & John

Wow I wish we had that kind of history here I bet you have some amazing display cases good job Thanks for sharing!!!!!

Good to see you're getting out Lu. Are the ear tags for cattle? One artillery burst could have taken out the whole herd. I keep seeing your normal silver find, now time to catch a little gold. Good luck.
